Draft 5
It was all too much

Srinivasan’s family was one of the families that was affect from the independence of Sri Lanka in 1948.Thing got worsen after the act was being passed down which was known as the Ceylon Citizenship Act of 1948. Thought they had been living in Sri Lanka for many years, they were still not a citizen of Sri Lanka.
“Mom, why can’t we vote for the minster?” inquired Abigail as she sat beside her mother.
“That’s because we’re not the citizen of Sri Lanka,” replied Abigail’s mother, Madison, while she was watching her television show.
“But mum, why can’t you work in the government, I attend school with the same requirement as the Sinhalese?” asked Abigail impatiently as she pull Madison’s sleeves.
“All this happen to us is because we are not the citizen. Thus, we can’t do anything what the Sinhalese can. They’re the ones who s the citizen, not us. It’s getting quite late now. Go to your bed now,” answered Madison as she pushed Abigail gently out of the sofa.
“Goodnight mum,” murmured Abigail while she walk towards her bedroom.
Madison nodded her head slowly. She started to think about Abigail’s question. It been 8 years since the government had declared that Sinhala is the country’s official language. She was given 3 years to learn Sinhala since she is working in the government. Unfortunately, she was unable to learn it within the time frame, therefore she was dismissed. Soon after the lost of job, Madison’s brother, Ethan, was killed in the riot between the Tamils and Sinhalese. This accident affects them badly.
2 years later, the resettlement policy was set up and once again caused big conflict. Many Indians Tamils were forced to move out or give up their lands or house to give to the poor Sinhalese peasant. The Srinivasan’s family were too, forced to give up their lands. Thus, Srinivasan’s family was forced to live with their relatives due to the poor family situation they are in.
Right after 20 years, Abigail’s brother, Jacob, went for examination to get into university. He scored with 3A’s and 4B’s with an overall mark of 235marks. He thought he could be able to get into Medicine and Dentistry, but the truth was not as expected. The teacher in charge announced that he did not have enough marks to enter the course due to the new university admission criteria. He was unsatisfied to the unfairness. His friend, Asantha, who was a Sinhalese, scored a total mark of 230 but he was able to get into the course. This frustrating matter caused Jacob to join the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which was set up in 1976.
Till now, things had never turned for the better. Gunshots were heard almost everyday. Many of their family members started to join the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) but most of them were killed in the riot. Will peace ever return to them? Or unhappiness continued?

Activity 5
The Fight Experience

I expected the flight journey on the Singapore Flyer to be fun and interesting. When I am outside the capsule of the magnificent structure, I stared at the Singapore Flyer with wonderment. The teacher in charge of our class told us that the normally constant rotation of the wheel lasts approximately 30 minutes.
The Singapore flyer was located on the southeast tip of the Marina Centre reclaimed land. it comprises a 150 m diameter wheel, built over a three-story terminal building which houses shops, bars and restaurants, and offers broad views of the city centre and beyond to about 45 km, including the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan, as well as Johor, Malaysia. Each of the 28 air-conditioned capsules is capable of holding 28 passengers and are attached outward of the wheel structure. These offer the advantage of a continuously unobstructed view when the capsule is at the peak, unlike the more common endo-capsule design of most wheels. Each capsule has a floor area of 26 m2 and is capable of holding 28 passengers, or up to 5 wheelchairs and 15 other visitors when booked in advance for use by disabled guests. Wheelchair ramps and lifts, handicapped toilets, and a dedicated parking lot for the disabled are also provided.
From the capsule, I saw many of the Singapore attraction. Some of them are the Esplanade, Marina Barrage, and Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, Fullerton Singapore, Merlion Park, Padang, the Floating stadium and lastly the New Bridge. The view from the capsule was a hazy vision but spectacular. One of the Singapore attraction, Esplanade was located at the picturesque waterfront overlooking marina bay, Padang was located at the heart of the Singapore’ central business district. As for the Fullerton Singapore, it was located near the mouth of the Singapore River and the Floating stadium was located next to the Esplanade.
My experience in the capsule was fun. During the flight, our class was busy taking photo of the stunning view from the capsule. Thus, the capsule was filled with excitement and anxiety and also the cacophony of student’s chatter almost immediately. As for me, it was walking around the capsule and also watching the panoramic view of the attractions. I was glad that I did go for the trip.

A funny incident that happen to me was that I almost fall when I was about to get out of the capsule. As the capsule did not stop when I alight from the capsule and there is a slope right outside the capsule, thus I nearly fall. But all thanks to my buddy, she holds me in time and therefore I did not fall.
This trip was definitely a worth going trip, especially in the night. Although we went there in the day, but the group photos shows with the background in the night was awesome. Thus, I will definitely recommend it to my relatives as it shows a lot of tourism attractions from the bird’s eye view.
